Hi, I'm Pluggy, the remote controlled fire hydrant. Oh, that's Mr. Les with me, in the picture. The American Red Cross Chapter in Springfield, MO is where I hang out when I'm not out visiting places.
What I like to do, is go to the schools and talk to the boys and girls about how to get out of the house, safely, if their home catches on fire. Also, I talk about smoke detectors, what to do if your clothes catch on fire, and other stuff. The most fun thing is when I do the rap song about all of this stuff. If you want to schedule a visit from me, have your teacher, or some other grown up, call the American Red Cross Chapter in Springfield, MO and ask for a visit from me. Oh, I can only go to the counties, in Missouri, that are taken care of by the Chapter.
There has been a couple of really bad fires, here in Springfield, and they did not have working smoke detectors in the house and some people got hurt really bad. Boys and girls, when everybody changes to day light savings time, that is when people should put new batteries in their smoke detectors.
So, please ask your parents—or some other grown up— to change the batteries and make sure the smoke detectors are working so you will be able to get out safely if your house catches on fire.
Well, Mr. Les had to take some time off. He has some family needs that have to be taken care of every day, for awhile. Hope he gets back soon so he and I can go visit the boys and girls again.
